An oxygen concentrator is a medical device that provides a continuous supply of oxygen to individuals who have low blood oxygen levels, typically due to respiratory conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, or after surgeries. The device works by concentrating the oxygen in the air and delivering it at a higher purity than what is found in the atmosphere. Unlike oxygen tanks, which store compressed oxygen, oxygen concentrators filter and concentrate ambient air (which is about 21% oxygen) and deliver it as pure oxygen (typically between 87% and 95%) directly to the patient.
